Joe Murphy:  Partner

Joe is CPMR certified and has been in the manufacturer's rep business since 1979 and later formed the Dodge-Murphy Agency with Ray Dodge. Joe has successfully represented nearly every type of plumbing/heating product on the market including: tanks, pumps, softeners, tools, water heaters, and well products. You name it, he's sold it. He would rather spend a 14 hour day on the road making calls than an 8 hour day in the office. Joe might be in a Chicago high-rise at 8:00 a.m. sizing a hydronic heating job and in Peoria at 4:00 p.m. the same day holding a training session. While rarely in the office, he's always available by cell phone. If you would like to know more about Joe, just go into any wholesaler in the State of Illinois and ask anyone from secretaries to owners. Everyone knows Joe.

Mark Dodge:  Partner

Mark understands engineering. He understands and can explain the complexities of some of the more technologically daunting products we represent including hydronic heating and pressure boosting systems. In fact, he's even designed a few. Mark's calm, patient manner on the phone or on the job site has helped more than a few contractors survive a difficult installation with their hair intact. He also leads great seminars, enabling wholesale salesmen and contractors to expand the product lines they sell or install and teaches continuing education classes in thermal expansion for the state of Illinois. Even after a long day on the road, if there is a problem with HOK's own IT system, Mark will work patiently through the night to have it up and running again by morning.

Dan Nolan:  Partner

Dan enjoys life. It does not make a difference if he is at work, out on the town, or at home with his wife and kids, Dan is trying to have fun. This attitude rubs off on everyone he works with, be it customer or Manufacturer. Dan also has a complete understanding of the Retail Hardware Market and can rely on over 30 years of experience in guiding products through the complicated systems of our customers. Need a new product sold and marketed? Dan can help you. Need a whole category of product sold into a new account? Dan has done that. Simply need an existing line of goods managed at one of the large hardware accounts? Dan can do that as well. Need trade show booths assembled and manned? That is a specialty of Dan’s. And don’t be surprised if you wind up coming away from a phone call or a meeting with Dan with a new joke or story to tell. Dan has a million of them.

Jim Johnsen:  AquaMark Pressure Booster Specialist

Jim designs ands builds AquaMark water pressure boosting systems.  Jim's all about getting it right the first time.  He makes sure all the right questions are asked and answered before the manufacturing process begins.  Once the units have been sized correctly using all of the information gathered in the interview process Jim then chooses the correct components for the application.  Quality matters to Jim and he chooses the components accordingly.  After completion each unit is tested under pressure and the pumps and drives are also exercised to ensure the booster works as it should.
Please call Jim anytime, he'll be happy to help you with anything you need relating to AquaMark water pressure boosting systems.

Frank Guerrero:  Outside Sales

Frank's a "people person"...one of those guys that no matter where he goes somebody knows him.  Frank worked at the local Ace Hardware store for 13 years.  During that time he accumulated an abundance of product knowledge which allowed him to help many people with issues they had in their home.  Frank is a sports nut (he and Dan both).  Frank is also fluent in Spanish.  This has proven to come in very handy at times!  Frank's main goal is to make his customers (and theirs) happy...he's very good at accomplishing this!

Picture
Danny Murphy:  Pressure Booster Manufacturing

Danny is our AquaMark pressure booster manufacturing specialist.  Danny understands the ins and outs of building, installation, and maintenance of all the systems he works with.  He's really good at trouble shooting and is a great asset out in the field.  Contractors like his easy going manner and also the  way he takes pride in his work.

Trent Nolan:  Outside Sales

We are glad to have Trent working at H.O.K. Sales.  Trent’s main job is calling on our customers as an outside salesperson. He is a sharp guy who is always looking out for your best interest.  His background is in IT management which is where he learned his “people skills”.  His knowledge of computers helps around our facility on a regular basis.  He fits right in with the rest of us here at H.O.K. Sales (that alone should tell you something about him)!  Please feel free to ask for Trent’s help on anything, if he does not have an instant answer, he will find out what you need to know and get back to you.

History

To answer your first question, H. O. K. stands for House of Kitchens. In the late 1960s, Ken and Ray Dodge decided to expand their retail business into the Manufacturers' Rep field and named the new division H. O. K. Sales. It could have been worse. They could have been selling gutters.

H. O. K. Sales enjoyed swift and continued success over the next 10 years. In 1976 the business was split and later, Ray teamed up with Joe Murphy to found Dodge-Murphy & Associates. Ken was joined by his son, Casey, in 1977, Patty in 1982 and Bob in 1988. Dodge-Murphy & Associates continued its growth by adding Mark Dodge in 1990. Ken passed away in 1993, still on the job, and Ray retired in 1997. The two agencies remained friendly; sharing industry updates, rides to trade shows and referring competing lines to each other.

By 1999 the respective principals of both companies decided the time had come to reunite as a single agency. The senior partners had a little trouble choosing a new president, so Joe and Casey flipped a coin. Joe lost and so he became the President. In short order, H. O. K. was reborn as a stronger, more comprehensive business entity, able to exploit opportunities available to a larger agency while enjoying the synchronistic benefits of two experienced staffs working together.

Since the merger, that process has been further refined so that today, every aspect of the way H. O. K. does business has been improved and updated. Most important of all, the valued personal relationships that each partner enjoys with manufacturers and customers have been enhanced.

Joe Murphy, Mark Dodge and Dan Nolan are equal partners.  The team as a whole we consider "family" (not to far from the truth!)

In January 2012 H.O.K. Sales, Inc. moved into our current location here in West Chicago, almost doubling our office space and updating our warehouse facilities.

Philosophy

Our mission statement is simple. It is to increase the sales of the manufacturers we represent by providing superior service and training to our Our Mission Statement is simple.  It is to increase the sales of the manufacturers we represent by providing superior service and training to our customers.

To accomplish this mission, we rely on our basic strengths of experience, service, teamwork and technology to get results.

H. O. K. Sales' management team brings over 80 years of industry experience to the table. Three unique and expert perspectives can quickly be applied to any tricky negotiation or tough sales problem, ensuring a win/win solution for manufacturer and customer alike. We've learned that our intention from the start has to be not only to make the sale, but to build a successful on-going business relationship with our customers. We never consider a sale as final. We believe every sale is a beginning.

We understand that great service is the keystone of the rep business and that keeping our relationships successful depends on that service. To that end, we provide extensive training, product seminars, counter day demonstrations, customer specific sales aids, product literature, promotional tools and incentives. Our office staff provides customer service and our 8,000 square foot warehouse provides back-up inventory for our customers and maximizes long-term sales opportunities.

Since we consider a sale the beginning of a new business relationship, we know that it takes a great team to provide the kind of excellent service that a long-lasting relationship requires. We have one. From top to bottom, the people at H. O. K. Sales understand how to work together to solve problems and answer customer needs quickly, efficiently and with a minimum of hassle. We're always ready, on-site or with expert phone support, to help with any product or installation question.

The key to using technology in a sales environment is knowing when to rely on it and when not to. At H. O. K. Sales, our experience with people and systems at all levels allows us to interface with clients and customers in the most efficient, productive and appropriate manner. Whether our customer's preference is to place an order via phone, fax, e-mail, internet, EDI or have his H. O. K. salesman come in and hand-write it, we accommodate them.

The long-time industry experience of our owners and staff, the superior service of a great team, and the technological and business knowledge we employ to streamline every sale produce results. The results are satisfied customers and increased sales and profits.
